Golden Gate National Recreation Area (Tennessee Valley Trailhead,
Old Springs, Miwok, Wolf Ridge, Coastal, Fox Trails: 8 miles)

Young equestrians practice at the stables in Tennessee Valley

Views back to the Miwok Stables as we ascend the Old Springs Trail

The trails are quieter on the south side of the valley

First glimpse of the ocean farther up the Old Springs Trail

Many of the headland trails are open to walkers, cyclists, and equestrians, but aren't crowded

Small panorama from the top of Old Springs near the Miwok Trail

Winding up Wolf Ridge

The Marin Headlands offer some interesting geologic formations; here is a great example

Overlooking Rodeo Lagoon and the mouth of San Francisco Bay

In search of an overlook with views to enjoy with our lunch

Looking north, toward Muir Beach

Lunchtime views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge beyond the headlands

Only a few trees can survive the pervasive winds and fog along the coast

We joined
the Coastal Trail back in Tennessee Valley before ascending to the adjacent hills

Looking back to the trail we descended from Wolf Ridge

Tennessee Cove on a sunny but cold winter's day

Another shot of the Pacific as we climb the Coastal Trail

Pirates Cove

The Coastal Trail snakes north, providing spectacular views for several miles

Another view of Pirates Cove, looking south

The hills are barely green this early in the spring

A final glimpse of the San Francisco highrises as we return on the Fox Trail
