Point Reyes National Seashore (Estero Trail to Drakes Head, 8.8 miles)

View from the Estero Trailhead, looking east

Causeway bridge provides access to the trail along Drakes Estero

Greater Yellowlegs feed near the bridge

A panoramic view from the causeway

Another small panorama, looking west down the length of Drakes Estero

The lower trails are quite muddy, especially near the ponds

A favorite view of the estero

Looking back (our trail follows the bluffs on the right)

We turn from the Estero Trail onto the Drakes Head Trail (first south, then west)

A panorama to the east from the Drakes Head Trail (click for larger image)

View south across Limantour Estero as we near Drakes Head

The path nears Drakes Head (on the left), which provides great views of Drakes Bay

Looking south (while searching for the perfect picnic spot) ...

... and a view to the north

The Farallon Islands are barely visible beyond Limantour Spit

On the way back, deer graze near the pond

These dead reeds will return as beautiful purple plumed grasses in midsummer
